How to Create a Happy Workplace With the Fish! Philosophy

Don’t think of the things you gonna have to do later or before just focus on what you’re doing right now

It was 1997 when John Christiansen was walking around the Pike Place Market, this is in Seattle. He was walking around the fish market and he saw the fishermen throwing salmon over people’s heads, trying to make everybody laugh, having a blast themselves. And then he thought, why this way of switching something tedious and gross even, into something more fun, it cannot be applied to the workplace? So he decided to create the fish philosophy, he wrote a book in 1998 trying to apply this to every workplace and today we’re going to tell you about the four pillars that build the fish philosophy. Welcome to success

Number one is “Choose your Attitude” this is, it might not be very easy to do but if you face the things that you have to do every day with a more positive attitude things will change, things will change around you. When you when you understand that a lot of things are not under your control and you can just let go you can focus on the joy of doing certain things

number two is “Be There” and this might sound a bit weird but if you’re familiarized with meditation, it’s a lot about the things that happen in the past or the things that happen in the future, they don’t really matter you focus on the present it’s the same thing with “Be There” focus on the task that you are at the moment, don’t think of the things you can have to do later or before just focus on what you’re doing right now.

Number three is “Make Their Day” this is about the customer try to make someone smile doesn’t need to be everybody just choose one person every day that you’re gonna let them go with a smile on their faces, try to go the little extra mile, try to deliver the WOW for them if you do that they’re not only gonna be smiling but you’re also gonna be left with a big smile on your face because you helped that one person

And number four is “Play” it might not be easy just like some of the other ones but play is what’s gonna make the whole difference in the workplace trying to find things that you can gamify with your friends, with your teammates With the people at work. If you play more at work it changes the whole day, the whole environment. Give it a shot try to find little things that you can make more fun and it will change a lot.

there are a lot of people that criticize the fish philosophy by saying that you can’t apply this to every workplace and they might be right but it’s a starting point there’s something you can start doing but, and try to make the place that you work a more fun and happy place, happy people create more, happy people produced more and you end up with a place that eventually makes more money.
