Google Crawlers are useful and harmless bots that can help you tremendously when it comes to positioning your website in Google Search. However, they are also treated as regular visitors, and they are clever enough to start empty chats with your LiveChat agents. So, is there a way to make them leave your operators alone?
Actually, there is! We have prepared a modified LiveChat code that can detect a Google Crawler. When it does, LiveChat will load a chat window from a non-existent group, which will automatically prevent the bot from starting a chat and being shown as a regular visitor. So, how to install it on your website?
- The process of installation is fairly easy. First, copy the modified LiveChat script from below and paste it into the source code of your website, just before the closing
</body>tag, but don’t save your changes yet!
- Now, log into your LiveChat and go to Settings → Channels → Chat widget. From there, copy the number of your LiveChat license.
- There’s just one more step left. Go back to your website’s source code where you have pasted the code from above → replace the
your_license_numberwith the number of your license → save changes made to your website.
And that’s it! From now on, every time LiveChat will detect a Google Crawler, we will automatically prevent it from starting a chat and being shown as a regular visitor.
